September 16-20

It has been a busy month. The students are learning so much. We are talking about fairy tales. We read the Wizard of Oz and Cinderella. The students will be writing their own fairy tale this coming week. We will be starting on non-fiction books for the rest of the nine weeks. We will be reading How to Bake an Apple Pie and See the World and Me on the Map. In language arts, we learned about nouns (common and proper) and verbs. This week we will be learning about adjective. We also ended our unit on weather in science. We will be starting our unit on water. Some of the stories that we will be reading in reading will go along with this unit. We also ended our unit on rules and family in social studies and will be starting Folk Tales. The first person we will be learning about is John Henry. August 19-23

I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome everyone to my class. This is going to be a exciting year for you and your child. The first couple of weeks of school was learning about the rules and procedures of the classroom and school. We have also been working on common and proper nouns. In science we are discussing weather. We are use instruments to help us measure the weather. We go outside and check the temperature, how much rain we got, and if the wind is blowing. In reading we are reading The Wizard of OZ. We are discussing the story elements. We have made Wizard of OZ characters and wrote about them. Please contact me if you have any concerns.

November 26, 2012

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. It is hard to believe that winter break will be here soon. Here is a peek of what we will be doing this week. Math- working on shapes. We will find out how many sides and corners the shapes have. Reading- fact and opinion. We will also be working on fiction and non-fiction. We will be comparing and contrasting them. Language- singular and plural nouns. Science- sound. Social Studies- landforms and natural resources. Please read the weekly decodable stories and vocabulary/ sight words with your child. September 11

It has been an exciting couple of weeks. In science, we have been studying about the weather. In math, we have been working on counting to 120 from any number given. In social studies, we are working on Folk Tales focusing on Davy Crockett. In reading, we are reading How to make an Apple Pie and See the World. We will make an apple pie on Thursday and writing about it. In language, we are focusing on the naming part (subject) of the sentence.

August 27 2012

I just wanted to take the opportunity and welcome everyone to my classroom. Sorry I was not able to do this earlier, but had some technical issues. It has been an exciting first month of school. We have been reading The Wizard of Oz. The students seem to be liking the story. In Math we have been talking about graphs. This coming week, we will be making our own graphs. We will be sorting and graphing Skittles and farm animals. We will also be focusing on tally marks. In language arts, we will be working on telling sentences,. We will also be working on nouns, verbs, and adjectives. In science we are discussing the different types of weather. In social studies we are talking about our families and community. Please remember that PE is on Tuesday and Thursday. Students need to make sure that they wear tennis shoes or bring a pair to change into.

Novemebr 7, 2011

Last week we learned about the letter Rr. Students are still allowed to bring in an item that begins with the letter Kk for this week letter on Thursday. The last two weeks, we talked about pumpkins. We carved a pumpkin and discuss the life cycle of the pumpkin.  This week and next week, we will be discussing Thanksgiving. In writing we will be practicing writing our first name and our loast name. The students will have a weekly sign in sheet that they will have to write their first and last name. Please continue to send Box Tops in. We are running low on our snacks again. If you have signed up to send snack and have not sent in a snack for this month, please send a snack in. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me.

Sneak Peek for next week:
Reading: We will be learning how to state what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We also will be learning about the letter Kk. We will learn how to write the letter, the letter sound and what objects start with that letter.
Math: We are continuing our chapter on numbers. We will be working on the numbers 20-30. We will be recognizing and writing the numbers 20-30.
Science: We will be talking about day and night.
Social Studies: We will be discussing thanksgiving

Last week we learned about the letter Aa. We tasted an apple pie and three different types of apples. Most of our class liked the Granny Smith apple. This week we will continue to taste apple items.  Students are still allowed to bring in an item that begins with the letter Nn for this week letter on Friday. This will be the last week the school will collect can goods for our country store and 2 liter sodas for the fall festival. Someone will pick up the can goods and 2 liter sodas on Friday, so if you have any cans or 2 liter sodas you want to donate, send them in by Friday. Please continue to send Box Tops in. Our fall festival is this Friday from 4:00-7:00.  If you are going to order books from the book order, please have them turned in by this Friday.
